SPACE BETWEEN
Digital Arts Festival in Sellasia, Sparta by Medea Electronique
March 1 & 2, 2025
The inaugural Space Between Digital Arts Festival, organized by the Medea Electronique Art Collective, will be held in Sellasia, Sparta, March 2025.
Focusing on in situ creation, cross-media improvisation, and digital media, it will host artists from Greece, Europe, and Canada. The festival features sound performances, performative installations, VR works, and videos, presented in various locations in and around the village. The festival is realized through close collaboration with the local residents, whose care and support continuously inspire us—whether through practical assistance or by providing materials that enrich our artistic projects.
New artistic practices often operate “in between” the real and the imaginary, the actual and the virtual. Through immersive media, virtual reality, and electroacoustic music, the boundaries between the real and the fictional, the authentic and the constructed, have become blurred. Contemporary artists navigate these liminal spaces, crossing the borders between scientific disciplines, arts, media, analog and digital worlds, as well as between creation and research. Simultaneously, they move across spaces, languages, and cultures.
How is this liminal space collectively produced? What does it mean to exist “in between”?
In addition to the fixed media works, installations and performances, these questions will also be explored in a discussion moderated and facilitated by Christos Carras (CCSC_Consulting Synergies for Culture) and Eric Lewis (Professor, McGill University, Canada) on Sunday, March 2, featuring participating artists from Space Between.

Medea Electronique
With a creeping pun between Medea and Media (the new media), Medea Electronique was founded in 2006 and consists of creative people who share the mood for innovation, moving in the greater field of contemporary art. Active in fields such as music, animation, multimedia, art installations, new interactive technologies, and multimedia event production, the members of the group merge separate research and practice fields in an effort to develop a particular style.
Medea Electronique’s activities include multimedia performances and installations, virtual reality experimentation, audiovisual events, and experimental electronic music festivals. Since 2009, the group has also organized the 10-day Koumaria artistic residency in Sellasia, Sparta. Their work has been presented at festivals and venues such as: Thessaloniki International Film Festival, Onassis Stegi, Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center, Benaki Museum, Michael Cacoyannis Foundation, French Institute of Athens, Vyrsodepseio, Booze Cooperativa, Municipal Theater of Piraeus, as well as in cities like Montreal, New York, Paris, and Beirut.
